How to avoid awkward moments

Selling lemonade to a former teacher, while in the nude, offers a certain degree of discomfort, especially when the teacher and I had our fair share of clashes. How did I handle the situation? By pretending I didn't know who he was, of course! I couldn't do it: I couldn't bring myself to acknowledge our association. Afterwards, I realized that if he had been naked, too, I might have had an easier time with it...but he wasn't, and I think he knew who I was, too. He sort of hid under his hat and didn't say anything and then asked if I knew where to find any "smoke." He left the beach before I could collect my cup from him, but that was fine by me. The last thing I wanted to do was go back and see him again. I guess there is the chance that he didn't know who I was, but I doubt it, we had too many "face-to-face" conversations while I was in his class.
Otherwise, the day was a good one. Surprisingly, it wasn't as busy as Thursday, and the cops where there for most of the day. I went swimming with a friend and a guy with goggles on came up right near us and then went under again, so we swam away pretty quick. I had a nice conversation with a guy who is carving a life-size mermaid on the beach. She is quite lovely. I met Bill and Ashley from Austin, Texas (he told me their names about four times). And I invited a couple of young bucks from Saskatchewan to the block party this afternoon. I doubt they'll show.
I made $66, in about four hours of work...but I was really working most of that time. I didn't spend a lot of time hanging out. I spent $20 on a Wreck Beach "wife-beater" tank top, that looks like a Corona label. I suggested to the vendor that next time he should change the label to say "La Playa Mas Fina" instead of "La Cervesa Mas Fina." Still, it's pretty hot, and I have a souvenir from my summer there.
After I had finished selling and was just waiting to collect cups, I chatted with Craig, a guy from Jamaica. He and his son, Marco, sell organic soft drinks. Mostly Craig told us about Marco, who remembers everything from month five in the womb. He has cerebral paulsy, and had seizures as a child, but apparently used the resulting comas to visit his grandma in heaven. And from the time he was three, he's been telling people at the beach when they've had enough to drink. Craig is the only person I've talked to who doesn't mind the cops being at the beach. He says that if people want to be able to drink at the beach then they should go to Victoria and change the laws.
It's pouring rain today...it's the 25th of August. But the forecast for next week is good, at least for now.
